About role

 

Essential Responsibilities

• Perform machining activities on vertical and horizontal milling machines in the heavy machining isle including but not limited to machines with the following specification:

  1. • Schiess vertical boring mill CNC (Table dia = 8 metre, Max swing = 10 metre, Max height = 5,5 metre, Max load = 250ton, Double ram)
  2. Innse CNC floor type horizontal boring mill (CNC control Sinumeric 850, Spindle dia = 200 m/m, Max cross travel =17, 36 metre, Max vertical travel = 5,5 metre, Combined ram and spindle, Travel metre = 1,96, CNC integrated 45 ton load rotary table)

• Install the CNC program required to perform the machining activities • Report directly to the allocated Machining Supervisor

• Receive their daily SOW from their supervisor and execute as per quality requirements and documentation in the production package

• Attend to daily toolbox talks on topics related to daily activities and ensure that Hazard Identifications and Risk Assessments (HIRA’s) are in place, adhered to,  

• Ensure compliance to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.

• Ensure the work areas are safe in terms of housekeeping, storage, stacking, machine guarding

• Seek advice if required before continuance with an activity which needs clarification

• Ensure total compliance to the access controlled areas around the machines

• Ensure that plant safety regulations, quality standards & procedures, work instructions are adhered to at all times

• Provide practical hands on training

 

Skills and qualifications 

• At least 15 years’ experience as Heavy Machinist in Power Plant Environment

• Must be fully literate in English, in reading, writing and speaking, and able to communicate in English at all times

• Strong & sound relevant trade skills with the ability to utilize and read measuring and test instruments within the tolerance requirements

• Conversant with Quality and Safety system requirements

• The ability to function effectively in a team environment

• Relevant qualifications and Trade Certificate

• 5 years’ experience working in Alstom machinery / equipment
