Thank you to everyone that attended the Careers in Africa Recruitment Summit in Johannesburg last weekend! We’ve already heard of some great successes following on from the event. We interviewed one lucky candidate, Isaura, who was offered a position with oilfield services corporation Halliburton on-the-spot!
Name: Isaura
Nationality: Angolan
Background: Studied Geology and Extraction Metallurgy at the University of Johannesburg
How did you hear about Careers in Africa?
I first attended the Johannesburg Summit in 2009 when I was still studying. I got an email a few weeks ago asking me to apply. I sent in my updated CV and was invited to the networking event. I was then invited to interview with one company, and then another and another!
How many interviews did you have?
I had five interviews. Two of them resulted in an offer to go and visit the mines in Angola, and a third offered me the job!
What did you think of the exhibition area?
The people from the companies were very friendly and it was good to talk to the people on the Friday who were interviewing me on the Saturday and Sunday.
These events have got better every year. I think as the economy grows in Angola and across Africa, more companies will attend this event to fill positions.
Best of luck to Isaura in her new job!
