Business Development Director

Africa Improved Foods Holding Ltd is looking for self-motivated, qualified individuals with the right attitude and a passion for innovation to join our young and energetic team on the position of Business Development Director- Africa Improved Foods Holding Ltd.

The Business Development job holder is accountable for driving growth of AIF via partnerships and commercial deals with companies, NGOs, governments, the UN and other institutions across East Africa.

 

Key Areas of Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • To develop a strategy for how AIF should expand the B2B, Govt and Institutional business
  • To explore new customer segments for AIF across East Africa, in particular in Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania, but also other countries in the East and Central Africa region 
  • To seek out, evaluate and close commercial deals for co-branding/tolling opportunities in the target markets with distributors, food manufacturers and retailers
  • To develop strong, top-level relationships with governmental agencies and ministries that deal with humanitarian crises or malnutrition, as well as institutions such as hospitals and schools that require nutritious foods, and to establish AIF as a supplier of choice for them
  • To establish a wide and deep network across the NGO and development sector in the target countries, connected at the senior level, to land business aimed at addressing malnutrition and humanitarian crises
  • To identify acquisition, JV and other partnership opportunities of all kinds that could drive the expansion of AIF via new and innovative business models
  • To work closely with Commercial director on how to improve B2C sales, marketing, communication and distribution in target markets
  • To provide market feedback enabling changes to strategy
  • To oversee execution of new partnerships across within AIF, especially product development and operations
  • To own and monitor success and profitability of the whole B2B and Institutional business across the region
  • To identify sourcing opportunities for raw materials in the target geographies, in collaboration with head of sourcing
  • To work with AIF investors and partners to benefit from their existing partnerships, capabilities and commercial relationships
  • To look for global opportunities of all kinds, consistent with the AIF strategy

 

 The Successful Applicant Must Meet the Following Criteria:

  • Degree from a top International University  
  • Possession of a MBA or other relevant postgraduate degree highly desirable
  • Deep knowledge of and interest in Development Sector and business models involving Social enterprises, Commercial, Development and Public Sector elements
  • Minimum of Ten (10) years professional experience in a Senior Commercial or Business Development role 
  • An impressive track record of sales success in a similar role
  • Experience in winning new business and developing meaningful relationships with existing and potential business partners, and various stakeholders
  • Ability to blend commercial and development perspectives
  • Comfortable dealing with a wide range of stakeholders in multiple countries
  • Networking abilities

  • Working across AIF teams to ensure delivery
