Investment Manager OMSA

Job Description

Manages assets and heads up one or more product lines, e.g. fixed income, equity, foreign exchange, institutional funds, credit research.

  • Monitors domestic and international situations
  • Analyses effect on investment to ensure successful management of portfolio.
  • A technical role with a degree of managerial responsibility.
  • Full accountability for all the facets of the business, incl.: profitability of the business (bottom line responsibility), development and implementation of the business plan, distribution, delivery of gross and net sales; growth of market share.
  • Sets strategic direction for the Business
  • Manages internal and external stakeholder relationships, incl. FSB, trustees, and distribution partners.
  • Manages outsourced contracts and relationships
  • Represents the business on and influences industry bodies
  • Ensures the management of overall expenses
  • Ensures operational effectiveness across all areas
  • Driving process improvements through the business, with an emphasis on increased efficiency, exceptional customer service and staff development
  • Full responsibility for the public image of the business, its relationships with clients, stakeholders and the broader business
  • Build strong relationships with external parties such as distribution partners, regulators and outsourced service providers
  • Ensure that all contracts, policies and processes are in place to ensure that the entire business is compliant with any regulatory as well as any group requirements
  • Accountable for setting IT direction in own area of control.
  • Responsible for all governance forums in OMUT (i.e. OMUT ExCo, Risk, Compliance, etc)

Asset Management

  • Analyses effect on investment to ensure successful management of portfolio.

Relationship Building

  • Builds and maintains relationships with corporate clients.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with Investment Manager (OMIG, OM Multi Managers, Adviceworx, Future Growth).

Vendor & Contract Management

  • Manages service level agreements with Distribution.
  • Manage Investment Management agreements with OM Multi-Managers and other parties (i.e. Adviceworx and Future Growth).

Managerial Responsibility

  • Small number of direct reports.
  • Will have to work with people in functional business lines (i.e. matrix structure), stakeholders across various businesses, both internal and external.
  • Stakeholder management of numerous external stakeholders / partners / providers: FSB, ASISA, External LISPs, Curo (asset admin), External Trustee companies (both local and offshore), numerous asset managers managing the OMUT funds (both local and offshore), etc.
  • Need excellent stakeholder relationship management skills, negotiation skills, delivery through others.

Influencing & Collaboration with Stakeholders

  • Negotiations with providers / partners (see size of contracts below);
  • Frequent negotiations with local regulator (FSB), also engagement with external regulators for offshore funds; engagement with ASISA, business represented on numerous ASISA committees.

Job Requirements 

  • CA / CFA / MBA – Post Grad in Financial Industry.
  • 8+ years investment experience.
  • 10+ years relevant work experience.
  • 3 – 5 years first-line management experience.
  • Previous management experience preferred.
  • FAIS Accredited – Key Individual for License.
  • Experience operating at a senior Corporate level within Financial Services.
  • Experience in managing an Investment business in a large corporate.
  • Ability to deal with complexities within different stakeholders.
