L’Oréal South Africa was established in 1963. The company has five divisions: L’Oréal Manufacturing Midrand (manufacturing plant) and four operating divisions, namely Professional Products Division, L’Oréal Luxe, Active Cosmetics Division and the Consumer Products Division.

Job Purpose

This position reports to the Industrial Director – Production and aims to ensure the end to end delivery of products to Client Companies, while adhering to and implementing the L’Oreal’s industrial policy.

You will also be instrumental in establishing the 3 year pl;an and budget every year in terms of investments, overhead, costs, standard time and standard losses.

Key Areas of Responsibilities but not limited to:

  • Coordinating a team of 100 to 160 people (operators, fork-lift truck operators, technicians, supervisors, engineers)
  • Organizing and planning the production unit’s activities to respond to the requirements of the Client Companies
  • Checking and sizing the resources (human, equipment, surfaces, procedures) with regard to medium-term requirements
  • Transmitting and applying the industrial policy rules in terms of Quality, safety, organisation, equipment performance and cost control, in cooperation with the other factory departments
  • Channelling choices and validating new equipment with the support of the skills of services internal and external
  • Monitoring and improving the performance of the production unit on the basis of key business indicators (accident rate, rejected lots, RFT, up-time ratios, production plan achievement rate, etc.)
  • Developing the abilities of the unit by enabling them to take responsibility for the main development lines (by coaching, training, etc.)

The Successful Applicant Must Possess the Following:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering – Mechanical or Industrial
  • A minimum of 10 years of product management experience in a consumer goods/manufacturing industry
  • Experience in understanding manufacturing and packaging techniques Good knowledge of product optimisation methods – KANBAN, SMED
  • Proven track record in ensuring the achievement rate of the production plant Prior experience in the fulfillment of safety, quality, up-time ratios, efficiency and cost objectives
  • Proven leadership skills in leading a team to ensure achievement of production unit’s objectives
  • Ability to make fairly reactive, sound decisions in relation to production
  • Strong planning and coordination skills
  • Good relationship building skills
  • Ability to anticipate challenges and plan accordingly
