Project Manager

Job Description

Our client is looking for a Project Manager.  In this role you will be based in Rwanda for a year thereafter will be relocated to the Ethiopian business playing an instrumental part in establishing it – taking with you best practices.  

Reporting to the Group COO, you will Manage projects according to PMP requirements and other relevant business and functional guidelines and requirements to ensure that the project objectives, deliverables and milestones are met, within the agreed budget, timing, SHE and quality standards.

 

Key Areas of Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Define the project brief, including (where applicable) a valid business case, and submit this to the principal for approval.
  • Manage the execution of the project in terms of money, time, quality, organization and information and ensure that the objectives, deliverables and milestones are met.
  • Manage external parties, delivering resources, consultancy or services.
  • Ensure all project activities are executed in compliance with the applicable laws, requirements and regulations.
  • Manage the project risks and inform the principal timely in case program objectives, deliverables, milestones, budget, timing and/or quality incur risk.
  • Manage and control the scope of the project and prevent scope creep.
  • Report the project progress versus the project brief to the principal or the review team on a regular basis.
  • Manage the expectations of the (internal) customer by defining and managing a project communication plan, in order to ensure that adequate information is provided timely to the relevant stakeholders.

The Successful Applicant Must Meet the Following Criteria:

  • Holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering or related field
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in project management /construction/Rehabilitation of which 8 years must be as a Project Manager/Team Leader/Resident Engineer on a construction site or rehabilitation projects
  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrated competences in championing customer focus, and in managing people in a multi- cultural environment
  • Proficiency in planning and time management
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural collaborative/team environment
  • Very good knowledge of English in writing and speaking
  • Resourceful, hands on, self-driven, self-starter, proactive and independent worker
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, supervisory and people management skills required
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines 
  • Pro-active in process-efficiency-initiatives
