Ocean Rig is an international offshore drilling contractor providing oilfield services for offshore oil and gas exploration, development and production drilling, and specializing in the ultra-deepwater and harsh-environment segment of the offshore drilling industry.
The company owns and operates 13 offshore ultra deepwater drilling units, comprising of 2 ultra deepwater semisubmersible drilling rigs and 11 ultra deepwater drillships.
Due to expansion Ocean Rig is currently looking for Rig Mechanics for their operations in Angola. We are looking for ambitious and motivated individuals who are seeking a fresh and rewarding challenge that will give them the opportunity to work with the latest technology on this project.
- RESPONSABILITIES/ACTIVITIES
The Rig Mechanic’s overall responsibilities are, but not limited to, the following:
- Familiarise himself with all mechanical equipment, equipment, especially related, and maintain/repair as instructed by his superior
- Liaising with the Assistant Technical Section Leader regarding equipment repairs, maintenance and planning so as to minimise the risk of delay through equipment breakdown or downtime
- Perform a regular inspection of Drilling Machinery
- Immediately rectifying or reporting to the Assistant Technical Section Leader / Toolpusher or Driller any defects or discrepancies in drilling equipment or associated equipment
- Responsibility for care and maintenance of all mechanical tools and workshops equipment’s
- Prepare ordering of mechanical maintenance / breakdown / spares
- Maintain his work area in a clean and tidy condition and free from any safety hazards
- Familiarise himself with reporting routines regarding the EDP based maintenance system on board
- Participate in safety meetings and safety drills
- SPECIAL DUTIES
- Ensure that all orders and instruction given in writing or verbally are fully understood and adhered to
- Familiarise himself with all relevant work and safety procedures issued by Ocean Rig AS and by the Operator, and promote implementation of same
- Promptly report all accidents, near-miss accidents and non-conformances and safe hazards to his immediate superior
- Be safely conscious in all his work and use compulsory protective equipment
- Carry out duties according to the vessel’s Emergency preparedness Manual when needed
- Inform the superior of any suggestion to make a safer working environment to make a more efficient operation of the unit
- QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
The Rig Mechanic must have:
- Recognised Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent
- Served in a similar position for a number of years and be familiar with all aspects of maintenance on technical equipment on rigs
- Valid health certificate
- Other qualification requirement as per the training matrix for the local area of operations
- Good knowledge of English (both oral and written)
- Fluency in Portuguese
- Angolan nationality or a resident card
