Senior Manager, Trade Services

Job Description

Afreximbank is headquartered in Cairo Egypt.  Currently, they are seeking a Senior Manager Trade Services. 

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Director Banking Operations, as the Senior Manager Trade Services , you will be responsible for managing the Bank’s back office operations in the area of documentary credit in line with the policies laid down by senior management, in order to ensure smooth and uninterrupted functioning of the Documentary Credit Unit.

Your primary responsibility will be spearheading the back-office activities for the Bank’s Africorrbanking programme and will initiate and be responsible for the recommendation and implementation of the Bank’s policies in this area.

Key Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Help establishment of sound documentary credit practices under the Banking Operations Department to support and expand the Bank’s activities in this area
  • Supervise and handle issuance, amendments, and confirmations of documentary credits, guarantees, and other trade finance instruments as the case may be
  • Handling forfeiting and factoring transactions
  • Take primary responsibility for maintaining correspondent banking relations
  • Coaching and assisting less experienced officers by providing guidance and responding to queries
  • Providing suggestions and making recommendations to the Head of the Department on possible improvements and new strategies towards management of the Documentary Credit area
  • Review and verification of transactions as well as reports initiated by staff in Documentary Credit before authorization by Head of Department
  • Overseeing the administration of more complex loan files in accordance with terms stipulated in the facility agreement
  • Assist in supervising the LAB providing secondary support to the LAB function in managing client accounts as well as the relationship as a whole with assigned clients
  • Assist in obtaining necessary info required by concerned Department for monitoring loan covenants and reporting requirements
  • Coordinating all interactions with other parties such as Treasury, Origination, Borrowers, Technical Advisers, Insurance, Collateral Managers, and Lawyers regarding the facility

The Success Applicant Must Meet the Following Criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree and post graduate degree in Business Administration, Banking, Finance or related subject from a recognized University. A  professional qualification in Banking backed up by appropriate Banking experience may be considered in lieu of a post graduate degree
  • Sound experience of at least 20 years with a reputable Banking organization, of which at least 8 years should be in the documentary credit area 
  • Ability to communicate and function in a culturally diverse and change oriented setting with good knowledge of banking practices in Africa
  • Ability to interact with senior officials of banks, corporates and governments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of  the Bank’s other working languages is an added advantage (French, Arabic and Portuguese)
  • Proven experience in back office operations at a relatively senior level. The candidate must demonstrate experience and knowledge of managing back office operations for documentary credits, loans, and syndications in a fairly complex banking environment
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including ability to organize and manage human resources to attain goals
