Sub-Regional Head of Human Resources – East Africa

Job Description

Reporting line and Relationships:

  • Reports to: Sub-Regional General Manager – dotted line to Regional Head of HR (based Johannesburg)

General Purpose of Position

  • Lead the development and implementation of the HR strategy for the sub-region.
  • Ensure the provision of a professional HR service to the business across the sub-region, supporting the business in the delivery of its objectives.
  • Develop a robust HR framework to support for scalable expansion and integration of The Company’s entities in the sub-region.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Establish and develop quality HR functions in new and existing countries in sub-region, building, leading and developing a competent HR function across the sub-region.
  • As part of regional leadership team, translate business needs to commercially driven HR action plans, and oversee delivery within the framework of The Company’s global HR initiatives. This includes roll-out of initiatives in performance management, talent development and compensation consistency.
  • Support the leadership team in developing and promoting a performance-driven culture across the organisation and ensuring The Company’s has the right people in the right place at the right time.
  • Support the sub-regional team in the management of growth activities including M&A activity and growth activities, including post-acquisition integration and organizational design.
  • Provide technical leadership on employee/labour relations in support of local HR management local businesses in region and drive people initiatives and programs through the organization and mobilized the management team to excel in the successful execution of people strategy.
  • Work with local HR in the region to ensure compliance in process implementation and application, including: employee data consistency, recruitment processes, compensation, payroll efficiencies etc.
  • Ensure HR information across the region is managed effectively via Workday and that required HR processes are effectively implemented via the system.
  • Promote harmonious and business effective relations with the Trade Unions, other IR partners and employees generally.
  • Consolidate sub-regional HR data and performance metrics for measuring effectiveness of HR initiatives and function in driving organizational performance and containing costs across sub-region.

Experience

 

  • 10-15 years minimum experience in HR
  • University degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related area;
  • Knowledge of Human Resources related programs, processes, tools, policies and guidelines and their application to complex organizational issues;
  • Knowledge of organizational concepts, including: team management, organizational design, resource utilization and workforce planning;
  • Proven experience in dealing with HR matters related to acquisitions and its derived components for the HR function (e.g. experience in due diligence, restructuring, among others). This includes experience in HR start-ups
  • Knowledge and experience of HR, business practices and cultures in the African region
  • Fluent English, preferable knowledge in French
  • Proficient in using MS Office

  • The candidate should be prepared to travel frequently across the African region (at least 50% of time)
