Terminal Manager MATADI – DRC

Job Description

Reports to: Operations Manager 

Key Relationships:

  • Internal –Business Support team, Finance Team 
  • External –Contractors, Auditors, Other MOCs Government Authorities – Regional Management

Key responsibilities

  • Ensures smooth daily activities regarding safe and efficient customer deliveries
  • Maximizes terminal profitability, performance and operational targets to meet agreed financial and business objectives.
  • Leads, motivates and coaches the terminal team to deliver outstanding performance on HSSE, Customer Service, Financial and People Measures and Operating Standards.
  • Provides required management information on a timely and accurate basis.
  • Establishes a culture of operational excellence throughout the terminal operation and ensures full implementation of company policies and procedures to achieve “best in class” logistics performance.
  • Ensures compliance with the company policy, control, audit and legal requirements and effects consequences for noncompliance.
  • Maintains strict controls on quality and quantity of stocks including losses/gains/re-grades and continually monitors the stock ownership position.
  • Ensures controls are in place to make sure financial and operational standards and costs are being met by all users of the facility e.g. operators, contractors, BVOs etc.
  • Focuses on performance by creating performance measures, having periodic reviews and coaching to optimize results or to effect consequences where needed.
  • Creates an enabling environment that promotes and recognizes individual and team efforts and develops the skills and capabilities of the team.
  • Manages effective relationships with contractors and third party suppliers to ensure effective working practices and performance. 
  • Demonstrates HSSE leadership, fully supports HSSE as a personal value and undertakes all necessary steps to ensure that Terminal staff assimilates these values, change behaviors and comply with standards.
  • Reviews, analyses and implements methods, systems and practices to improve terminal operating efficiency and reduce costs ensuring at all times the Company’s reputation and license to operate is maintained by compliance with the relevant legislation and safety requirements.
  • Works closely with other areas, understanding implications of broad decisions, and successfully implements programs and initiatives to achieve customer focused operational excellence.
  • Reports on any issues that may have strategic impact on the organization (both positive and negative).

Education & Experience

  • Tertiary education preferably in engineering studies 
  • At least 3years of operations management at supervisory or senior level 

Competencies:

  • Management of operations
  • Understanding of petroleum products handling/storage
  • Understanding of DRC regulations and procedures in respect of operating petroleum storage depots in the country, especially quality standards and licensing requirements
  • Knowledge of Matadi Ports Authority procedures with regards to petroleum product importation and back loading of petroleum product to other ports
  • Understanding of transit petroleum business
  • Product quality control
  • HSSE policies and legislative requirements

Skills

  • Proficient in Ms Office applications eps Word & Excel
  • Able to work with ERP, esp Navision
  • Fluent in English both written and spoken
  • Management & logistics  skills
