Vice President – Technical

Job Description

VP Technical will manage a team of various disciplines (Design, Development, Planning, Maintenance Programmes, Materials Management, Base & Ramp Maintenance, Contracts, etc), taking total  responsibility for the technical performance of the Fleet, through the implementation of Strategies and Processes that will ensure the highest technical standards while ensuring safety and operational reliability, yet minimizing operational costs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide sound leadership and direction, developing a multidisciplinary team that can support the
  • Engineering Maintenance organisation in all of its technical requirements.

  • Provide the airline with 24 hour on call emergency / incident support.
  • Develop cost effective Maintenance Programmes and modifications that match the requirements of
  • the airline whilst ensuring the highest technical standards are applied.
  • Actively encourage ideas and developments that improve contract performance as a whole,
  • including the making of recommendations for organisational changes as well as creating new and/or
  • improving existing work processes.
  • Develop the design functions of the group so as to enable effective business case based decision
  • making on all modifications, maintenance schedule changes, and deviations from manufacturer
  • requirements.
  • Actively encourage ideas and developments that improve aircraft performance as a whole, including
  • the making of recommendations for organisational changes as well as creating new and/or
  • improving existing work processes.
  • Ensure effective project management of all aircraft related activities, where necessary taking
  • personal responsibility to manage projects to deadlines.
  • Develop communication strategies while managing relationships with all airline departments and
  • outside companies.
  • Enhance the technical information interchange and working relationships with third party
  • maintenance organisations responsible for maintenance and spares support.
  • Establishing and maintaining material stock levels and inventory values throughout the fleet.

Qualifications / Experience

  • An Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) license with ratings.
  • Previously held a Post Holder for Maintenance
  • Aircraft Engineers License EASA Part 66
  • 3 years experience in maintaining the same category and class of aircraft used by the AOC holder
  • including 1 year in the capacity of returning aircraft to service; and 1 year supervisory experience
  • maintaining the same category and class of aircraft used by the AOC holder.
  • Type Ratings on: – B737, A330, A340, CRJ900 or Q400 or combination
  • A minimum of fifteen years experience in airline engineering, with a minimum five years experience
  • in a significant Man Management role with professional engineering staff.
  • Experience in Africa desirable

Technical Requirements

  • Must have a sound knowledge/understanding of the Modification, Materials Management, and
  • Maintenance Schedules procedures, being able to describe any future issues facing the airline with
  • respect to these processes.
  • Must have a sound knowledge/understanding of the Aircraft Maintenance Contracts, Materials
  • Management Contracts, and Maintenance Schedules procedures, being able to describe any future
  • issues facing the airline with respect to these processes.
  • Ensure a safe, compliant operation of Fleet.
  • Manage the overall lifetime cost of ownership of the Fleet
  • Provide daily and out-of-hours technical support to all areas of the airline.
  • Provide support to the airline on fleet related issues 24 hours a day.
  • Prioritisation of all tasks within the Group.
  • Management of group members to the highest possible standard through recruitment and
  • performance management.
  • Allocation and control of annual departmental budgets.
  • Negotiation of service level agreements with other airline departments.
  • Negotiation and delivery of service level agreements with OEM’s, Vendors, and 3rd Party
  • organisations.
  • Management of the fleet’s compliance with Regulatory statements.
  • Negotiation of Maintenance Schedules with Regulatory Authorities.
  • Accountable for the technical standard, reliability and safety of the Fleet.
  • Accountable for the modification standard of the Fleet.
  • Accountable to the cost effectiveness of the Fleet’s operation.
  • Accountable for the actions and performance of all staff in the Fleet Technical team.
  • Accountable for the effectiveness of modifications and their timely accomplishment.
  • Escalation of issues to Senior Management.
  • Representation of Arik Air at Industry meetings and conferences.
  • Advising the Arik Air board on the drafting of future strategies for the Fleet

  • Must be thorough, detailed and analytical in their approach to work.
  • Must have the ability to work well on their own initiative.
  • Must have good leadership qualities and demonstrate solid Man Management skills.
  • Must have an understanding of Budget Management and financial control.
  • In addition; original copies of the training certificates and license to be available at the time of
  • interview.
  • Each AOC holder shall make arrangements to ensure continuity of supervision if operations are
  • conducted in the absence of any required management personnel.
