Purpose of the Position
 
Develop and own the KFC Africa growth strategy to achieve the company’s Net New Unit growth, revenue and profit targets.

Position Functions:
  • Develop asset growth strategy
  • Develop detailed asset optimisation strategy
  • Develop and lead the Mergers and Acquisitions strategy
  • Source new partnership opportunities
  • Direct strategy for new market entry
  • Direct and co-ordinate business development activities including making specific recommendations on new restaurants/site opportunities, new restaurant concepts and restaurant enhancements.
  • Direct and approve all capital investment/expenditure proposals
  • Act as primary interface with Dallas Development to ensure the alignment of major development strategies and plans within the BMU
  • Direct and plan changes in staffing and reporting relationships in conjunction with the Human Resources Department. Lead, motivate and develop subordinates in order to achieve the department’s objectives. Advise staff of their accountabilities in order that they may achieve them.
  • Undertake other duties as required by the General Manager, KFC.
  • Support Rest of Sub-Saharan GM in achievement of RoSSA NNU growth targets
Position Impact:
1. Major Problems
  • Balancing the facility quality and operational success criteria with overall investment and return objectives
  • Quantifying the value proposition and ROI with potential investors
2. Decision Making Authority
  • Make all major business development decisions across the portfolio
  • Recommend business development initiatives to enhance asset optimisation and market leadership, including refranchising, store closures, store builds and relocations
  • Approve capital investment proposals and chair the Investment Committee
  • Approve expenditure within budget and authority
  • Oversee HR actions on business development management and staff
Working Relationships:
Internal:
  • General Manager – KFC Africa (direction, policy, approval, prioritisation)
  • General Manager – RoSSA (strategy development and alignment, execution)
  • Other Directors and key staff of other departments (plan execution, co-operation)
  • Dallas Development Management (business development leadership, technical advice)
  • Legal (technical advice, contract negotiation)

Personal Specification

Specialised or Technical Knowledge/Skills
 
  • Tertiary degree level qualification essential, with major in business discipline, CA(SA) preferred. Post-graduate (MBA) qualification preferred
  • Minimum 15 years’ overall business experience in management consulting, investment banking and Mergers and Acquisitions, preferably with a focus on retail growth/expansion
  • Excellent communication/negotiation interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead and motivate a diverse team
  • Candidates with international mobility preferred
  • High work ethic and integrity essential
