Candidate Interview

Onabor Princewill was hired at the Shell Careers in Africa Recruitment Day in Calgary November 2007. He is still with Shell and has progressed through the organisation. He continues to be happy with his decision to move back to Africa and pursue his career with Shell.

What first motivated you to move back to Nigeria & were your expectations met when you moved back home?
The need to use my education and skills to contribute to Nigeria's national development propelled me to accept to move back. Were my expectations met? Of course yes.

What types of jobs were you looking for?
I was looking for a professional job that would challenge and bring out the best in me. I was looking for petroleum engineering jobs especially in petroleum reservoir engineering.

What was the most helpful part of the Recruitment Day & what advice would you give to someone considering applying for Careers in Africa?
The professional way the Careers in Africa staff on ground handled the accreditation process was fantastic and that went a long way to prepare us for the interview. Also the beautiful presentation made by the company (Shell) heightened my interest to move back home to work for them. For those considering applying to Careers in Africa, you are on the right path. It has worked me and I know it will work for you as well. I encourage you to take a step of faith and apply.

How many interviews did you have during the day & why did you choose Shell?
I had 2 interviews. I chose Shell because I saw in them a company that wants to offer me a career rather than a job. An institution that wants to make out of me a well rounded professional and a leader in the oil and gas industry worldwide.

What advice would you give to anyone who is looking to move back?
My advice for those looking to move back to Africa as professionals? I sincerely encourage you to go ahead and apply for jobs in Africa. First of all because there is no place like home and second of all you will like it because you will use your skills and education to contribute to make your country a better place comparable to what is obtained in western Europe and America. You will be contributing to national development.
