Reports to: Drilling Superintendent

Organisation and Interfaces
Provide drilling engineering expertise and support in the planning and execution of drilling operations on deep water wells in a remote location. This position is a 50/50 split location between Dar Es Salaam and Reading, UK.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop robust well designs and drilling programmes that meet the requirements of the BG Well Engineering Policy. Full account should be taken of offset information and the well sanction budget.
  • Support the tender process for the provision of 3rd party services for well engineering as well as the procurement of well hardware.
  • Support the execution of all well engineering related operations. Maintain a record of all design assumptions and Management of Change.
  • Ensure an auditable trail is maintained for all decision making during the drilling operations.
  • Ensure that all drilling lessons learnt and non-conformance reports are investigated and closed out.
  • Supervise 3rd party contractors involved in the drilling operation by clear communication and coordination of requirements to ensure an efficient service is supplied.
  • Support the upkeep of the well cost tracking system.
  • Compile all well engineering documentation and records needed for consent, well examination, handover and audit as required.
  • Maintain the performance data for each well as applicable.
  • Maintain an End of Well report document and update throughout the well life cycle.
  • Ensure the Well Design and Operational requirements can be met by the rig specification

Core skills/Experience

  • Extensive Drilling Engineering experience with an Operator. Recent experience ( in the last three years preferred) in the planning and drilling of one offshore well as a minimum.
  • Experience as a Drilling Supervisor would be considered an advantage although not essential
  • Experience and be considered expert in the use of industry recognised Well Engineering software such as Wellcat, Stresscheck, Drilling Office, WellPlan, Compass
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Demonstrate commitment to Health, Saftey and Environmental performance, his/her behaviour is influential to others in the organisation
  • Conversant with the industry-standard Drilling Engineering software packages, i.e. Compass, Stresscheck, Wellplan, etc
  • Must be a self starter, inquisitive and confident to pursue new design and withstand challenges from peers
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal peer assistant/ supervsion.
  • Must be able to work in a multi-cultural environment
