Job Description

Education / Business Degree 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and / or equivalent
  • Post graduate degree in Engineering and/or equivalent professional qualification  (preferred)

Work Experience  

  • 7 – 11 years of relevant experience in telecom networks domain or senior business management roles
  • 3 – 5 years of relevant working managerial experience in telecom networks domain specifically on fixed assets management and maintenance experience
  • Experience in the service management of business operations

Any other specifications 

  • Experience in ERP (Oracle preferred)
  • Project management experience
  • Telecommunications industry experience
  • Pan Africa multi-cultural experience

Key Job Responsibilities 

Strategy Development and Implementation

  • Lead creation of sub-divisional strategy in line with overarching divisional goals, with emphasis on client experience (internal and external)
  • Ensure effective implementation of sub-divisional strategy by means of providing direction, structure, business plans and support

Staff Leadership and Management

  • Source, induct, and manage talent in accordance with legislative guidelines.
  • Ensure open communication channels with staff and implement change management interventions where necessary.
  • Provide definition of roles, responsibilities, individual goals and performance objectives for the team.
  • Set key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide regular performance feedback through a well-defined and implemented performance review program.
  • Develop and implement a training plan in order to build and develop skills within the team.
  • Performance manage resources in accordance with HR policy and legislation where necessary.
  • Actively participate in leadership team and develop skills of own team.
  • Promote a ‘MTN centric’ and ‘partnership approach’ to develop strong relationships with other working groups and ensure adherence to Group governance.  

Governance

Strategic Meetings

  • Participate and provide input in strategic meetings.
  • Provide inputs to enterprise wide transformation initiatives.
  • Provide inputs to and ensure adequate risk mitigation and controls.
  • Perform evaluation baseline of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and KPIs.
  • Request for relevant budget for internal projects and new initiatives.
  • Facilitate preparation of proposal on change initiatives SLA, policies and procedures.

Escalations

  • Escalate issues that will result in severe time, scope, productivity, and cost or resource impact.
  • Manage and provide solutions to escalations that have multiple processes / functions impact on critical path of service delivery.

CoE Tactical

  • Review all projects initiated (internal or global).
  • Review and finalize objectives, targets and budgets for CoE as applicable.
  • Review key risks, issues and dependencies and set mitigation actions.
  • Manage budget.
  • Facilitate in sign-off / making decisions regarding tactical changes.

Performance

  • Monitor performance and alignment with MTN global strategy.
  • Ensure alignment between SSH, CoE and Opco.
  • Assist in SLA approval and exception performance review. 

Reporting

  • Report on a monthly / periodic basis to the relevant stakeholders relating to progress made within the sub-division and in accordance with the measurement metrics set by the organisation.
  • Report on an ad hoc basis on specific projects, as required.
  • Periodically review reports from the SSH, Opco.  

Budgets

  • Manage divisional budgets in line with business objectives.
  • Manage project initiative budgets in line with business objectives.
  • Ensure that the cost of operations is reduced, in line with a least cost operating strategy stemming from the business drivers.  

Operational Delivery

Guidance and Support Delivery Management

  • Assess gaps in Maintenance Management process, develop and implement solutions, and train key stakeholders to ensure sustainable solutions.
  • Establish and lead working teams to execute enterprise-wide initiatives: develop and deploy process, define RACIs, establish performance metrics, develop and deploy standard operating procedures (SoPs), develop and or provide process training, develop and deploy tools and templates, assist in selecting systems and support acquisition / deployment.
  • Work together with business leaders to resolve targeted Maintenance Management challenges within MTN’s businesses and establish specific performance metrics to define project success.
  • Leverage deep domain expertise and breadth of sourcing knowledge to consult businesses on related challenges.
  • Identify gaps in processes, roles and responsibilities, and tools / systems. Prioritize opportunities and lead corrective action.
  • Continuously educate and train Maintenance Management professionals globally regarding sourcing best practices and standard tools.
  • Design and develop the MTN framework for Maintenance Management.
  • Continuous Improvement to ensure solutions are globally relevant and sustainable.
  • Custodian of adherence to the policies & procedures and ensures documentation and debate in case of deviations.
  • Drive the policies, process, standard practices, procedures and guideline to Opco Business Partners.
  • Increase the quality and professionalism of maintenance support processes for the business.

Operational

  • Develop EAM Maintenance Strategy. Perform on-going reviews and update maintenance strategies in compliance with telecom industry maintenance practices, OEM figure-of-merits and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop strategies to reduce life cycle cost (LCC) / operating expenditure (OPEX).
  • Maintain and sustain maintenance toolkit, business processes, solution architecture, training and implementation.
  • Deploys standard documents, reports and standard operating procedures.
  • Establish a platform for reporting, classifying, analysing failures, and planning corrective actions in response to failures (FRACAS).
  • Establish a platform to address maintenance related issues and escalations (continuous improvements).
  • Ensure evaluation of maintenance history and facilitate the incorporation of improvements at OpCos (i.e. Analysis of maintenance cost drivers, mean time to maintainability (MTTM) to strengthen strategy).
  • Ensure evaluation of Asset Reliability and facilitate the incorporation of price books selections (i.e. Analysis of reliability, mean time between failures (MTBF) trends).
  • Ensure consideration and incorporation of OEM Recommendations (i.e. service instructions, maintenance parts, lead times, warranties) to facilitate better informed services contracts.
  • Monitor OpCo maintenance performances, compliances and alignment to capital expenditure (CAPEX) budgets.

Collaboration/Coordination

  • Ensure that appropriate support and coordination is provided by EAM CoE specialists to Operating Company (Opco), Finance Business Partner (BP) ,Group Management Services (GMS) and Shared Service Hub(SSH).
  • Ensure consistency and sharing of best practices across Opcos in EAM programs through governance mechanisms and the support of Opco(s) program implementation.
  • Ensure management of master data elements and BI reporting.
  • Lead transformational initiatives within Finance CoEs, as applicable and drive the required change. 

Managerial / Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Coaching and mentoring of direct reports to ensure staff motivation is high.
  • Ensure skill transfer for staff development, motivation, and business continuity.
  • Ensure the team is lead, motivated, and rewarded to achieve high performance areas.
  • Guide and direct vendors and third parties in achieving MTN objectives.
  • Identify staff training and development needs and implement necessary actions
  • Recruit staff for appointments.
  • Set goals and objectives for direct reports, monitor progress, and maintain motivation.
  • Set up appropriate structure to meet departmental management objective.
