Strategy Manager

Job Description

The jobholder will report to one of the senior strategists in the Group Strategy and Business Development Department in the Paris HQ (France).

According to the Group Guidance, the main responsibilities are to:

Participate to the development of the Strategic vision for several countries of a specific geographical area

Support key projects of development or disinvestment

Answer to countries’ main questions in terms of strategy and strategic analysis.

The jobholder will have an international exposure, working closely with the countries and more specifically with the Strategy Director and the Chief Executive of the country (as well as with other members of the Country Excom) and working with other corporate functions.

Work according to the Group ambitions and in close collaboration with our corporate departments (Finance, Performance and Innovation departments).

Be in charge of a range of countries located in a specific area and will build a whole strategy for them, showing his/her complete understanding of their macro-economic and business environment.

Full knowledge of the area, of the country and its competitors to develop tools and challenging arguments, formulate some valid recommendations, and define and implement an action plan.

Bring a critical analysis of strategy and business stakes on markets for the countries whose he/she is responsible for, and will contribute to strategy stakes’ prioritization.

Share his full understanding of the countries strategy during annual reviews to contribute to the economic group pattern.

Use operational, financial and economical knowledge in order to develop countries’ business plans.

Actively contribute to transversal studies, useful for the Strategy Department and the Group. This will give him/her the opportunity to widen the scope of his/her geographical responsibilities.

Profile:

Technical skills

Strong quantitative, analytical skills and ability to be synthetic, to write position papers, high level recommendations / presentations

Aptitude for business, finance and marketing insights and implications -> business and finance acumen should be really strong

Project management skills

Soft skills

Credibility and trust – ability to work at all levels of the organization

Ability to work with teams of people both inside and outside the organization (people across all departments, accross our operations and with external stakeholders)- self confidence balanced by humility

Facilitation skills

Convincing skills

Former background

Formal generalist business qualification such as an MBA is a must

Consulting background can be a plus

Cultural and business experience in Africa is a real plus as the job holder could be assigned some studies related to countries from this region (the role belongs to a small pool of strategy managers with various geographical backgrounds)

5 to 10 years experience

A real wish to go to operations in one of the countries where we operate after this role: this is an entry role (2 to 3 years in Paris max.), which can be seen as a training ground for talents.

This leads also to the imperative need to succeed in this role to be then mentored by the top managers, with whom the jobholder has been working, to go to operations.
