Our client is a leading independent telecoms infrastructure provider, operating in high-growth markets across Africa. The company specialises in owning and managing telecom tower assets, offering innovative and sustainable infrastructure solutions to mobile network operators and technology partners. With a strong presence in multiple African countries, the organisation is committed to driving digital transformation and connectivity across the continent.

Location: Tanzania, DRC, Congo

Recruitment Summit: The selected candidate must be available to attend the Recruitment Summit in London on the 8th and 9th of May (exact venue to be confirmed).

The Managing Director will be responsible for the overall strategic leadership, operational performance, and financial growth of the company’s business in their designated region. Reporting directly to the executive board, the role requires an experienced leader with a strong background in telecoms, infrastructure, or a related industry. The successful candidate will oversee all business operations, drive revenue growth, and ensure the organisation remains at the forefront of industry developments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a strategic vision to drive business growth and operational excellence.
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing leadership team to achieve key performance targets.
  • Oversee financial performance, including revenue growth, cost management, and investment decisions.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and corporate governance in alignment with local and international standards.
  • Strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, investors, and regulatory authorities.
  • Identify and capitalise on new market opportunities to expand the organisation’s footprint.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Represent the company at industry events, forums, and high-level stakeholder meetings.

Personal Specification

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s/MBA preferred).
  • Minimum 15 years of leadership experience, with at least 5 years in a senior executive role.
  • Proven ability to manage P&L, drive business growth, and improve operational efficiency.
  • Strong understanding of the telecoms infrastructure sector or a related industry.
  • Experience in a multinational, multi-market environment, preferably across Africa.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and inspire teams in a fast-paced industry.
  • Strong strategic, financial, and commercial acumen with a results-driven approach.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working with government agencies, regulators, and commercial partners.
