COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR

This is a senior managerial position reporting to the Group Managing Director and CEO. The role has a primary focus on revenue generation and network optimisation.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

• Develop and implement business, commercial and sales strategies and plans that will deliver Kenya Airways growth and profitability objectives.

• Contribute to the development of the overall Kenya Airways product by the establishment of controls, policies and procedures that deliver the customer experience of the Kenya Airways brand. This includes the development of customer service standards

• Ensure the commercial strategy (route structure, aircraft fleet and alliances) is reviewed, agreed and implemented, to meet the business needs for growth and profitability.

• Establish an effective network planning function which can make best use of routes, aircraft space and resources to deliver profitability and revenue growth.

• Develop and maintain good working relationships with strategic partners, alliances and governments.

• Develop an effective sales organisation which can optimise revenues from the schedules and deliver sales targets (passenger and cargo) at minimum cost.

• Train and develop senior staff and ensure all staff training aligns to the strategic and business requirements of Kenya Airways.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

• Masters degree in Commerce, Business Administration or relevant discipline.

• At least 10 – 15 years at senior managerial level in a reputable airline; 5 years of which must have been in a similar position. Knowledge of the aviation industry, commercial disciplines and trends.

• Aero-political experience and the ability to understand and influence regulators.

• Strong, positive leadership, able to influence staff, suppliers and customers equally. Able to work at Board level and meaningfully participate in other airline disciplines.

• Strong business management and revenue maximisation skills

• Ability to understand and work across cultural differences and barriers

• Ability and willingness to travel extensively around the network

 

GENERAL MANAGER CARGO OPERATIONS 

Reporting to the CEO, the incumbent will be accountable to senior management for ensuring safe, secure, efficient and economic cargo handling of Kenya Airways and customer airline flights in accordance with regulatory requirements, company policies and relevant authorities.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

• Contribute to the definition and development of the KQ product portfolio, particularly GH & cargo. Responsible for safety and quality control.

• Ensure that a Risk Management process is applied throughout the Kenya Airways cargo operations at JKIA Nairobi Hub. Promotion of positive safety culture.

• To provide for an efficient and effective organizational structure to deliver agreed scope and standard of service.  To ensure optimization of manpower, staff levels/shift patterns.

• To ensure suitably trained/qualified personnel are recruited/retained/developed.

• To ensure safety & security of cargo operations is in compliance with relevant legislative/industry requirements, organization standards and local procedures.

• Liaise with the relevant authorities, customer airlines and other operationally relevant external parties.

• Ensuring that all non-compliance reported from an evaluation process are closed within the time frame provided, action which should include identifying the root causes and the area of failure.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

• Masters Degree or relevant professional qualification.

• Experienced in delivering superior customer service in a demanding distribution/logistics environment.

• Experienced in planning and managing extensive human and materiel resources.

• Financial awareness and process oriented.

Successful candidates will receive an attractive remuneration package and will be engaged on a 3 year performance-based contract.
