Job Description

Lafarge Plc. will be interviewing for this role during the Careers in Africa London Summit on the 18th and 19th of April 2024.
 
MAIN ACTIVITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
 
SUSTAINABILITY
  • Lead the formulation and implementation of the company’s long-term sustainability vision and operating principles within the country, and lead the development of a high-level strategy to support them. 
  • Coordinate the Leadership Team’s activation of the Group’s Sustainability Ambitions to develop country specific sustainability ambitions Using the Sustainability compass, develop and co-ordinate the company’s Sustainability Ambitions and Policies.
  • Co-ordinate and support the activities of the different Sustainability Project Managers on the Country’s Sustainability Ambitions on: Dust Control, Affordable Housing, Education & Local Job Creation, CSR Maturity and Stakeholder Engagement ; Diversity ; Road Transport , Ethics & Governance, Alternative Fuels & Biomass and Visual Impact.
  • Continuously secure and leverage senior level commitment and support for integrating sustainable development into core processes and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the company’s internal groups (for example, function heads, plant management, industrial ecology etc) to develop a coordinated sustainability plan.
  • Serve as the internal leader and “go to” expert for sustainability, monitoring emerging trends, programs and issues, and communicating and educating others on sustainability topics
Sustainable Development Communications:
  • Collaborate closely with internal subject matter experts e.g., Head of Industrial Ecology, Health & Safety etc. to ensure appropriate responses and communications on their subject areas.
  • Work with the Internal and Corporate Communications team to ensure there is effective internal and external communications of Sustainability and CSR activity including stakeholder engagement. Foster a culture of sustainability through ongoing organizational communications and education.
  • Facilitate internal and external communications and visibility as the company spokesperson on sustainability issues.
CORPORATE BRANDING
  • Develop and execute an annual brand plan aimed at Corporate name recognition/familiarity and reputation building. This will include but is not limited to: corporate launch campaigns, advertising, Sponsorships, Architects’ Relations/other professional bodies, Participation at Trade fairs/Exhibitions, Promotions
  • Manage the country corporate brand architecture and implement the Group brand positioning locally. Support the development and cascading of company’s Vision,
  • Build a corporate social responsibility policy/vision for the company
  • Drive the development and execution of policies and programs that are consistent with the strategic framework of the Group and aligned with the country business strategies.
  • Ensure that the company’s CSR investments and interventions build corporate reputation and contribute to driving corporate success.
  • Establish Country Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Platforms and put in place a monitoring framework for evaluation of CSI and CSR
  • Conduct research, come up with ideas, create detailed plans, and implement and coordinate a range of activities and initiatives, which are designed to have a positive impact on communities and the society.
  • Work with external agency to develop and maintain detailed proposals for CSR, including identifying and implementing sponsorships with non-profit and other organizations to demonstrate commitment externally
  • Country Volunteering Champion: oversee extensive Employee Volunteerism across the country’s operations. 
PEOPLE DEVELOPMENT:
  • Support the effort of the Country Communications Director in developing communications professionals within the company.
  • The incumbent influences and interacts regularly with all categories of Staff in all country operations and offers professional advice on effective communication including the Leadership Team who sponsor the different Sustainability Ambitions of the Company.
  • Liaises with Group Sustainable Development experts in understanding, cascading and implementing Group priorities; interacts regularly with the external public for good reputation management including NGOs, Sustainable Development Agencies, Government Agencies, Organised Private Sector

Personal Specification

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Communications or related fields
  • Advanced degree would be an added advantage
  • Minimum of 7 years’ relevant industry experience, with at least 3 years in a similar role.
  • Strong professional experience of Corporate Brand Management and strong understanding of sustainable Development strategies.
  • Ability to work and interact with top level management executives and high powered external stakeholders
  • Able to travel
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
