Job Description

Purpose of the Role

The purpose of the role is to lead the Innovation Agenda and build robust and strategically fit pipeline that will deliver against the ambition working closely with all key stakeholders. 


Summary of Role

  • Consumer Insight- Identifies key consumer issues and ensures penetrative consumer understanding and insights are applied to drive innovation and brand growth.
  • Pipeline building & management: Orchestrate the pipeline to deliver projects on time, ensuring launches fit within the overall priorities.
  • Creativity Uses own (and others) creativity to develop world-class innovation solutions. Understands importance of balancing creativity and business solutions.
  • Motivating & inspiring agencies & cross functional teams – Understands what drives & motivates internal & 3rd party teams & constantly strives to build great productive relationships by breaking down barriers to performance.
  • Excellence in execution – Delivers high quality results seen through to world-class completion. Maintains high standards by driving quality, speed & cost management appropriately.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Continuously monitor the external environment dynamics, exploring the impact of social, cultural, and economic trends and using this knowledge to influence the business to explore growth opportunities.
  • Apply fresh insights to joined up innovation strategies that create value for all (consumers, shoppers, customers & Imperial Distillery Limited) and lead to sustained growth. 
  • Collaborate with an agile network of internal and external experts to shape and leverage innovation strategies that create real value for all, positively changing the rate of innovation growth.
  • Build distinctive innovation brands through consistent execution of the brand purpose.
  • Understanding of all the elements of the P&L, I carefully manage the P&L manipulating each element to drive out cost & increase profit.
  • Through harnessing creativity and expert knowledge from a variety of sources, I lead networks of teams in developing and nurturing break-through concepts for complex projects.
  • Consistently deliver scalable innovations by using a broad search & spin net, I search & spin across Global brands, Global commercial initiatives & external innovation brands
  • Inspiring agencies and teams to develop step-changing creative platforms.
  • Consistently set clear KPIs and continuously monitor them to promptly identify issues, opportunities and then recommend the interventions needed.
  • Manage senior stakeholders through clear and compelling recommendations for all projects based on a pragmatic assessment.
  • Lead and involve cross-functional teams to translate growth drivers into innovative execution that maximize physical & Mental availability for innovation brands.
  • Clearly articulate the performance of my projects and the early interventions needed to drive performance.

Personal Specification


  • University degree. MBA/Marketing background an advantage
  • Proven ability: Team leadership / strategic thinking
  • Proven and strong Brand, Commercial and Trade marketing experience


Key Experience

  • 10 years Brand Marketing and /or Project Management experience. 
  • Able to demonstrate success in developing & leading teams.
  • Experience working with and successfully managing 3rd party agencies and strategic partners.
  • Budgetary & cost control management


Skills & Knowledge:

  • Ability to take a strategic view and evaluate options/alternative scenarios.
  • Strong understanding of consumer insights and the ability to convert these into highly successful commercial innovations.
  • High performance, cross-functional, cultural team working.
  • Strong project Management skills and experience
  • Sound marketing and commercial skills
  • Commercialization techniques
