Chief Financial Officer

Job Description

Key Objectives:

 

Reporting to the Regional Chief Financial Officer in Kenya, the CFO for the Company will direct all financial activities and advise the Company CEO and the Kenya – Regional CFO in meeting or exceeding the overall financial and strategic objectives of the Company.

 

Critical outcomes include building a finance team across the Company assets, supporting the Regional CFO in Kenya and the Group CFO with key financial information and operational analytics, ensuring automation of results through relevant IT / ERP tools,  ensuring coordination with initiatives such as procurement, driving a culture of accountability in managing the business and adding value to the Company entities within Kenya.

 

Responsible for ensuring the security of all cash and assets of the Company platform and responsible for timely and accurate financial information, budgets and forecasts for aiding the growth of the Company platform through planning for increase of its overall profitability and productivity of assets through controls, review and improvement of policies and procedures and administrative measures instituted by the Company CEO and the Regional CFO. A particular focus on ensuring quality of earnings are robust, e.g. collections.  Overall responsibility for Finance, Revenue Management, Materials Management and Information Systems Departments.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Corporate Finance and Strategy

  • Develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information and strategic recommendations to the Company CEO and the Regional CFO and make actionable recommendations on strategy and operations.
  • Actively assess organizational and departmental performance against the budget and long-term strategic objectives.
  • Actively manage capital needs of the Company, ensuring the efficient use of capital expenditures.
  • Conduct proactive analysis to improve key business decisions focusing on cost controls and management of working capital.
  • Monitor cash balances and develop a reliable cash flow projection process that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.
  • Manage tight control of collections and financial relationships across the platform with payors
  • Manage banking relationships, arrange debt and equity funding, and develop optimal capital structure for the platform in line with the corporate office.
  • Develop investment plans to support the long-term growth of the platform and carry out feasibility studies to assess the viability of these investment plans.
  • Financial and Management Reporting.
  • Manage all aspects of financial reporting, including accounting, business planning, budgeting, cash flow management, collections, management reporting and continuous monitoring of business performance.
  • Prepare forecasts that reflect long term strategic objectives and initiatives.
  • Oversee the production of monthly, quarterly and annual performance reports with relevant benchmarking metrics to the Company CEO and Regional CFO.
  • Ensure the timely reporting of all periodic financial reporting in accordance with the IFRS standards.
  • Oversee employee benefit plans.
  • Coordinate all audit activities and statutory filing requirements.
  • Establish internal control processes to safeguard financial assets of the Company.
  • Manage procurement, supplier relationships and inventory.

Team Management

  • Develop and coach the existing team.
  • Ensure appropriate training and development is offered to finance staff to raise their understanding of financial management.

 

Risk Management

  • Monitor all open legal issues involving the hospital, and legal issues affecting the industry.
  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage.
  • Ensure that the Company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies.

 

Candidate specification / qualifications:

 

  • Commerce Graduate from a recognized University.
  • Chartered Accountant / CPA/MBA
  • 10+ years of finance / accounting experience with at least 3 years of experience as Director of Finance or CFO.
  • Experience in the healthcare provider sector
  • Kenya or Sub Saharan experience would be preferred
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
