Country Manager – Maputo, Moçambique

Job Description

SUMMARY & MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE

To establish / manage Group Five presence in Mozambique. Establish country relationships, contacts, systems, processes and procedures in line with Group Five guidelines to ensure a sustainable presence in the country.

The country company is to be a multi-disciplinary construction company offering a full service across the construction related value chain in Mozambique, seeking to leverage both a credible local presence and a strong technical backing available from Group Five in RSA to secure / procure a sustainable multi-disciplinary work load in Mozambique.

In addition to maintaining a sustainable presence in Mozambique, the local company will need to ensure through comprehensive market information that the Group is in a position to secure/compete for major construction contracts as may arise within the market segments serviced by the Group. These major projects would typically be undertaken in joint venture with Group Five’s major Business Units based in RSA.

MEASURABLE OUTPUTS

  • Ensure compliance with legislation pertaining to the business and construction operations in Mozambique
  • Develop and implement a Mozambique operational strategy – including structure, systems and logistics
  • Undertake relevant business development and client relationship management activities on behalf of the Group
  • Establish the necessary alliances and commercial relationships in the country
  • Effective team leadership and management
  • Effective self-management and teamwork

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS OF ROLE

General (pre-requisite)

  • Extensive business development skills and knowledge
  • Track record in leading / managing people in strategic  and operational environment

  • Sound knowledge of business planning / budgeting processes
  • Sound knowledge of legislation impacting on effective business practice and excellent corporate governance in country under control

Organisation (induction)

  • Complete and comprehensive RSA induction programme to ensure knowledge of:
  • Sound understanding of the group structure, business flows and company policies, processes and procedures
  • Specific knowledge of SHEQ procedures
  • Excellent working knowledge of Group Five specific construction site requirements
  • In depth knowledge of Group Five reporting systems
  • Knowledge of Group Five clients and strategic business partners
  • Sound understanding of Group Five’s values, mission and culture
  • Relevant systems and process knowledge
  • Sound understanding of the group structure, business flows and company policies, processes and procedures
  • Sound internal network

Role (foundational knowledge)

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Business related tertiary qualification.


PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in managing a country office
  • Experience at a senior level in the procuring, managing and contractual aspects of similar contracts is a prerequisite
  • Candidate must have country experience to be able to provide advice and support to personnel, thereby reducing the dependency on RSA management and personnel.
  • Having worked either in a 3rd world type environment would be highly advantageous.
