Supports the leadership of the Financial Advisory Department in the origination and execution of financial advisory mandates, and other related roles and responsibilities. The key areas of responsibility includes but not limited to: market and client research, financial modelling, project and corporate finance analysis, preparation of transaction materials, as well as administrative and business performance tracking or reporting tasks as defined by the Head of the Financial Advisory Department.
Research & Analysis
- Provide research and analytical support for the development of a comprehensive strategic business plan and budget for the Financial Advisory Department.
- Produce research and financial analysis output to aid the evaluation of prospective Financial Advisory business opportunities under development.
Business Development
- Assist in the business development activities required for the purpose of securing Financial Advisory assignments from prospective clients. Such activities will include but not be limited to:
- Market scanning, research reporting, preparation for and participation in client coverage and business development meetings
- Maintenance of an active market research database of target clients, transactions and market opportunities in the African infrastructure space.
- Maintenance of an active database of third-party consultants and Financial Advisory partners being nurtured by the Corporation.
- o Preparation of proposal documents, financial analysis, presentations and preliminary review analysis
- o Support the management of key client relationships as assigned by the Head of Financial Advisory
Financial Advisory Support
- Assist in administering the legal processes associated with onboarding new financial advisory mandates, including but not limited to ensuring internal KYC processes are adhered to, working with internal counsel, external counsel, clients and colleagues to ensure mandate letters are finalized and executed effectively according to AFC’s internal processes.
- Support the execution of Financial Advisory mandates approved by the Corporation, including but not limited to:
- Support the development of project scopes of work, timelines and detailed work plans for each engagement
- Create both internal and external project presentations, reports and analysis at short notice/ within tight deadlines whilst ensuring quality output.
- Work with external and internal counsel in reviewing transaction documents such as Project Development Agreements, Joint Development Agreements, Concession Agreements, Shareholders Agreements, EPC Contracts etc. to identify key issues for project bankability.
- Liaise with AFC sector experts and other investment professionals to get first hand insights on selected projects and sectors.
- Prepare complex financial models (corporate finance and project finance models), sensitivity analysis, teasers, investor presentations and comprehensive investment memorandums for Projects
- Prepare and maintain Investor logs for Projects where necessary
- Participate on project calls with clients, sponsors and investors
- Work with external and internal counsel in preparing financing documents on Projects such as term sheets, facility agreements, common terms agreement, share subscription agreements etc.

- Liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure effective closure on transactions.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
- A strong first degree in engineering/economics/finance from a recognised university
- Relevant advanced degree, e.g. Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Civil engineering, Finance, or a related field of study, is desirable.
- Relevant certifications related to finance and/ or project management will be advantageous.
