Job Description

MISSIONS

Within the framework of the department’s objectives and yearly action plans, his/her missions are:

Manage and Optimise the Supply Chain for South Africa – Cement

All in-bound and out bound transportation/logistics (road and rail) – R700m per annum budget.

In bound = raw materials into our production facilities

Out bound = Customer deliveries and Depot transfers

Distribution Depots (x2) – Budget R26m

Lichtenburg Despatch – Budget R14m

Safety for all areas of responsibility including depots and road transportation.

7 direct reports

Depot Managers x2 (one grade 14 + one grade 15)

Materials Manager Lichtenburg (grade 16)

Planning Manager (grade 14)

Analyst (grade 15)

Project Manager (grade 16)

Transport Manager (grade 16)

Total staff 140+

Manage using planning and scheduling systems, including linear sourcing model, JDE and Cement Despatch System (CDS).

Liaison with all stakeholders, especially production and sales departments.

Rail Safety through the RSR (Rail Safety Regulator)

On time and in full delivery

Cost management (total budget R745m) and optimisation of the distribution network;

Customer transport per ton is the key indicator

Supply Chain Projects

Ongoing review of logistics footprint in respect of costs and opportunities to further optimise

RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage safety (rail, road and depots)

Manage the logistics and distribution of all in bound raw materials and out bound cement.

Manage optimisation of cement sourcing and the distribution network (including the depots)

Manage the optimisation and innovation projects in the Supply Chain

Performs any other reasonable tasks when requested by the Manager


REQUIRED SKILLS/PROFILE

SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGER

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

B Comm (Logistics/ Business Management) or similar qualification

10 years management experience in road and rail freight in a manufacturing industry

Cement logistics and manufacturing experience preferable

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Road and Rail management experience

Cement Knowledge – understanding the business

Liaison (with internal and external stakeholders)
