Job Description:
The core job purpose is to manage the acquisition; play out and transmission of 100+ channels, comprising turnaround channels from a range of sources, as well as a number of locally developed channels. The transmission is on cable and DTH networks.
Responsibilities:
- The job holder is entirely responsible for the TV signals on both cable and DTH networks in terms of acquisition; bouquet provisioning; security; transmission; quality monitoring and management; inclusive of the management of related technical infrastructure
- Act as the primary point of contact between Wananchi Programming Limited (WPL) team and the Wananchi Technical Department
- Oversee materials ingest, scheduling, play-out and transmission activities by managing a small, dedicated team.
- Oversee the transmission of 100+ existing channels, from a range of satellites and IP contribution. Proactively avoid / eliminate any issues that can impact on broadcast quality or uptime. This includes both external liaison and internal troubleshooting.
- Manage the relationship with Wananchi’s play-out facility in London, which is responsible for play-out of the existing Zuku channels. Manage SLA and reporting, and work through any arising issues or new requirements.
- Manage the acquisition of play-out Facility for Wananchi, to be located in Nairobi. Manage the effective localization and migration of the play-out facilities from London to Nairobi.
- Ensure the ongoing integrity and effectiveness of redundancy in the TV reception and transmission chain
- Collaborate with WPL team to find and implement contribution solutions for new third party channels.
- Brief, develop / evaluate and implement broadcast solutions for newly developed local channels.
- Oversee any necessary systems integration.
- Lead the technology development of new broadcast-related services such as VOD.

Requirements:
- Engineering degree is required. Typically candidates will be trained as broadcast engineers, but have acquired broader management experience.
- However, appropriate experience, skills and attitudes are acceptable in lieu of a broadcast engineering qualification.
- At least 8-10 years of experience in a broadcast operations environment is required.
