The South African Post Office serves as a delivery agent for Government by paying out social grants, and facilitating payments for local government bodies.

Cellphone and landline airtime, money transfer services, envelopes, and philatelic products are also available from the Post Office.  It hosts an internet service with links to search engines, the SA government and business.

With 1 431 fully fledged outlets and 1 185* agencies, the Post Office renders service in remote and rural parts of the country where no other major company is represented.  That makes it the one company that can act as an outlet, or physically deliver items, where it is necessary to reach the entire South Africa.

During the previous financial year, the company served more than 80 million customers over the counter.
