Reporting to the CEO/Board of Directors the CFO will be responsible for planning, implementing, managing, and controlling all treasury and financial-related activities as well as oversee the finance functions of the subsidiaries and associate companies. This will include direct responsibility for accounting, finance, forecasting, strategic planning, cash management, working capital management, job costing, legal, property management, deal analysis and negotiations, investor relationships and partnership compliance and private and institutional financing.

The role is a remote role with 20% time allocated to travel to Nigeria/Jersey 

Operational Responsibilities: Leadership and Strategic Management

  • Provide leadership in the development for the continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives
  • Direct and oversee all aspects of the Finance & Accounting functions of the organisation


Planning, Management Reporting and Financial Analysis

  • Responsible for preparing the stand alone and consolidated accounts of the company, managing the Audit process and ensuring that the audited accounts are ready before statutory filings dates
  • Preparing the monthly management account of the company in line with agreed SOP and ensuring the accounts are analysed and presented during the monthly performance review sessions
  • Liaising with the Chief Finance Officers of Investee companies and ensuring that the accounts of the entities are made available in line with agreed timelines for preparing the stand alone and consolidated accounts
  • Establish standardised procedures for planning, budget preparation and monitoring adherence to the approved budget as well as the alignment of budget to the objectives of the subsidiaries and associate companies and those sufficient funds are available to fulfil these objectives
  • Improve the quality of financial and regulatory reporting and monitoring the process, ensuring the effectiveness of risk management, providing oversight of treasury function and adopting a proactive approach to tax planning as well as management of tax-related issues
  • Recommend yearly budget for Board approval and prudently manage the company’s resources within the budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations
  • Manage the company Asset and Liabilities and prepare the consolidated Asset and Liabilities management reports
  • Monitor and control capital expenditure ensuring compliance with the policies and adherence to budget/forecast


Treasury & Investments Management

  • Ensure effective allocation of capital to investments and projects that will yield the maximum return on investment and maximise shareholder’s value
  • Ensure that the capital required for all entities to function are met in accordance to the approved strategies by their respective Boards
  • Determine the optimal approach and source to raise capital (debt/equity) and engage/negotiate with consultants to manage the capital raising process
  • Analyse investment opportunities against investment criteria and evaluate key drivers and commercial assumptions


Dividend Distributions

  • Drive value creation across entities, ensuring performance targets are met to pay/distribute targeted dividends to beneficiaries
  • Determine appropriate framework for payment of dividend to shareholders on an annual basis


Financial Risk Management

  • Review the risk management framework and ensure that the Group’s risk appetite is reviewed at least once a year or more frequently as may be required in the event of significant/material changes in the Group’s strategy or in line with regulatory requirements/demands
  • Review the adequacy of key corporate arrangements including such as risk strategy, risk register, anti-fraud and corruption strategy, corporate plan
  • Monitor the risk-taking activities and risk exposures to ensure they are in line with the Board­ approved risk appetite, risk limits and corresponding capital or liquidity needs (i.e capital planning)


Tax Planning and Management

  • Develop a comprehensive framework for managing the company’s tax.
  • Set targets for periodic tax liabilities and assess the tax impact of various activities, such as the acquisition or disposal of fixed assets or a deliberate change in employee population
  • Estimate organization’s periodic tax liabilities and ensure appropriate taxing authorities receive tax return filings and payments when due


External Audits

  • Plan and ensure that the statutory and regulatory audits of the company is concluded as at when due; liaise with external auditors on all audit matters


Investor relations

  • Represent the organisation’s progress on strategic goals to stakeholders by providing a clear communication of performance and a perspective relative to the competitors, taking a forward looking view in the management of key risks and responding positively to issues raised by industry regulators

Personal Specification

12+ Years experience

Academic Qualifications & Certifications

  • First degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant field. MBA or master’s degree in a related subject is mandatory.
  • ACCA. CPA. CIMA or other relevant qualification is mandatory
  • Knowledge and understanding of financial services industry and other industries where businesses may evolve in the future
  • Good accounts/finance knowledge
