Job Description

The Syndications team, overseen by the Director for Syndication & Risk Distribution within the Vice Presidency for Global Trade Bank, supports client-facing origination functions and product teams. The role involves providing structuring support and distribution services to enhance the bank’s syndicated facilities in Africa.
 
  1. Mobilise funding from diverse investors to enhance the development impact of the bank’s risk capital.
  2. Leverage international financing into Africa using loan syndications. Generate incremental revenue through arranging and distributing syndicated loans. Contribute to optimising risk asset diversification and capital utilization through syndication and secondary sales.

Responsibilities:

1. Supporting Business Development/Origination:

  • Present proposals and mandate letters to clients, emphasising syndication benefits.
  • Assist in structuring transactions to attract syndication partners.
  • Market syndicated finance products to a wide range of partners.

2. Syndication Loan Structuring and Distribution:

  • Conduct market soundings to identify syndicate partners.
  • Prepare syndicated deal documentation and support structuring and pricing negotiations.
  • Execute mandated syndicate loan transactions.

3. Asset Sales:

  • Implement the bank’s asset sale policy by identifying assets for potential secondary sale.
  • Liaise with Banking Operations for portfolio management and capital optimisation.

4. Market Knowledge:

  • Conduct market research on pricing and deal structures.
  • Provide market pricing and risk appetite feedback to management and origination teams.

5. Relationship Management:

  • Maintain and expand a network of syndicated loan partners.
  • Enhance cooperation between the bank and DFIs in Africa.
  • Manage relationships with professional advisors and service providers.

6. Monthly/Quarterly Reporting:

  • Prepare monthly reports and Tier-2 performance tracking.
  • Ensure timely preparation and submission of quarterly Board paper

Personal Specification

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Banking and Finance or MBA
  • Min 5 years of relevant experience in a top financial institution
  • 5 years experience in syndicated loan market with a good understanding of African debt markets
  • Knowledge of Trade, Corporate, and Structured finance products
  • Ability to communicate in a culturally diverse setting
  • Willingness to travel extensively and demonstrated leadership capabilities
  • Excellent communication skills in English plus French, Arabic or Portuguese fluency.
  • Ability to work independently and contribute effectively to the team.
  • Able to relocate to Abijan, Abuja, Harare, Cairo, Yaounde, Kampala
