Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is a regional group of fifteen countries, founded in 1975. Its mission is to promote economic integration in “all fields of economic activity, particularly industry, transport, telecommunications, energy, agriculture, natural resources, commerce, monetary and financial questions, social and cultural matters.

Its headquarters, the ECOWAS Commission, consists of a ten-member commission working towards fulfilling the vision of creating an ECOWAS of People- a borderless, prosperous and cohesive region where people have the capacity to access and harness its enormous resources through the creation of opportunities for sustainable development and environmental preservation.

The Commission formulates its own programmes and, subject to its governing bodies, manages their diversity. Thus, employees of ECOWAS work with governments and peoples across the region, helping to harmonize policies and develop programmes in critical areas including Agriculture, Women, Children and Youth, Private Sector, Infrastructure and Governance.

Our core areas of activities include, among others, infrastructure, private sector development, policy harmonization, regional trade, gender equality, climate change and regional integration.
